The Top Ten Signs that You are in Love - College Candy

?

When it comes to love, I?d say that it?s a grey concept. In other words, love isn?t black and white. Yes, I suppose that you either love someone or not, but what?s important to remember is that love comes in many forms.?While taking a sociology class, I studied Sternberg?s Triangular Theory of love, which posits that there are four main types of love: intimate, committed, and passionate, and consummate love.

I will briefly explain these terms: Intimate love refers to a love based on intimacy and trust, where you share personal information with the person. Do you talk to your boyfriend every day to see how his day went? You definitely have an intimate love.?When it comes to committed love, it is unsurprisingly a relationship built on commitment, where the couple mutually decides to stay together, regardless of whether the relationship benefits each partner or not.?Passionate love is self-explanatory, where a couple basically can?t keep their hands off each other? I?m sure you know an annoying couple that fits this description!?What is consummate love? Well, it can be described as the most perfect and idealistic love, meaning that a relationship contains intimacy, commitment, and passion. Just because you don?t have consummate love doesn?t mean that a relationship can?t be successful- consummate love is simply something to strive for.

So if you have a boyfriend or girlfriend, what type of love would you categorize your relationship? If you say consummate love, congratulations!?What can be tricky about Sternberg?s theory of love is that you first must know that you are ?in love.? Love is an elusive concept that is difficult to define. So how can one know if it is truly love? The answer is simple: Take the following test to see if you suffer from these love-struck symptoms. If you ?suffer? from five or more signs it is safe to say you?re in love! How sweet! : )

1. All long songs on the radio remind you of him or her

This is a clear sign that you?re in a lovey-dovey state of mind! Clearly you can?t get your partner out of your head, even when you are distracted by music! How adorable is that?!

2. You stay up late talking on the phone or skyping

This sign shows true commitment, especially when you have to get up the next morning at 6 A.M.! It seems that you can?t get enough of him or her!

3. You can?t wait to tell him or her about your day

You clearly have an intimate relationship when you care about whether your partner had a good or bad day. When a couple listen?s to each other complain about their day, this shows an even greater commitment!

?4. You compromise

Whether it?s compromising on what to watch on TV or compromising on what city you will move to after college, compromise is a huge indication that your relationship is headed in the right direction!

5. You spend time with his or her family

Getting to know the family is an integral part of a relationship, where it truly shows that you love your partner- regardless of whether his or her mother is a basket case!

6. You can?t keep your hands off of each other

I won?t go into details here, but if you are physically attracted to one another, that?s a good sign!

7. You love your partner?s quirks

If you can stand you partner?s most annoying quirks, like constant throat clearing, you?re definitely in it for the long haul!

8. You never run out of things to talk about

If you have frequent pauses while conversing, this is a terrible sign that you and your partner may not be compatible anymore? Or you imply don?t have enough in common.

9. You still get butterflies when he or she kisses you

Okay, I admit it is clich?, but those butterflies in your stomach is a definite signal that you are still in that I-can?t-get-enough-of-you romantic phase.

?10. You aren?t afraid to use the ?L? word

If you already have the courage to tell your girlfriend or boyfriend that you love him/her, you?re most likely in love, unless you?re downright lying! Who would do that though? If you?ve used the ?L? word without meaning it, shame on you!

So did you past the test and find five or more signs that apply to your relationship? Let me know in the comments below!

Xoxo,

>>> so here is how big today's iphone 5 debut was. j.p. morgan estimates sales of this one device will contribute a third of a percent to the total gdp of the united states . sales are brisk, it is a hot item. but there is a problem or two. our report tonight from nbc's stephanie gosk.

UPTOWNflavor ? Review: Harlem BarBQ

If you visit Harlem today, compared to say 5 years ago, even a neighborhood local can?t deny that the atmosphere and demographic has changed. New restaurants are migrating uptown to call Harlem their new home, bringing along with them a new and more food focused attitude. Now, you can walk down various select blocks and hand-pick where you want to meet friends for happy hour, where you will have an amazing dinner, and where you and your girls will eat brunch over the weekend.

In Harlem it?s vital to keep up with the times and be flexible to all that is new and developing around you. Harlem BarBQ on the corner of 127th and Frederick Douglass Blvd came to the neighborhood a few years ago, just as Harlem was developing on the restaurant scene. ?At first, people were skeptical of this restaurant, especially because the name was so closely associated to another highly popular restaurant in NYC. I thought the same way too until I had the pleasure of meeting Alex Ortiz, Harlem BarBQ?s public relations manager and graphic designer. I went to Harlem BarBQ with a completely open mind recalling what Alex said about the changes going on in the restaurant. Alex stated:

?We want to reach out to all of?Harlem?and Uptown to introduce everyone to a new place to meet, eat and drink. With special?privileges? of becoming a VIP member with many rewards and discounts, this will provide a better way of ?saving money for them and keeping our ongoing customers to return to the restaurant. Harlem is going through some major changes. I?believe?we will be better than downtown? uptown will be the new downtown with broad range of?different?ethic cultures and better clubs, bars and?restaurants.?

As Alex explained, there are plenty of new things being implemented at Harlem BarBQ. A new happy hour which includes their very popular 20 oz frozen drinks for $5.99 and also a new membership program that offers special deals to membership card holders. Also coming soon is a downstairs area with a bar for after hours drinks and snacks and can also be booked for private parties. ?On to the good stuff, the food and drinks! Once I got the memo that Harlem BarBQ is NOT and in no way associated with Dallas BBQ, my friends and I were ready to go over the menu and see what is being offered. To start I was promptly greeted at my table by a friendly waitress and a basket of warm and soft cornbread. ?I ordered a frozen mango patron margarita, amongst the variety of frozen and non- frozen beverages which also consisted of beer on tap; wines by the glass, and also sangria by the glass or the pitcher.

Waiting for our drinks to arrive from the bar we looked over the menu. Every aspect of what someone would want out a menu is covered. Appetizers, salads, and main entrees along with sides and desserts. We wanted to try so many things, but we opted for several appetizers that included buffalo mac -n- cheese; pulled pork sliders; catfish bites with chipotle dipping sauce, and for dessert we ordered a warm apple crumble with vanilla ice cream which was recommended to us by the owner. Impressively, the food was delicious. Everything was fresh and prepared perfectly. I have never had buffalo chicken mac-n-cheese, but after tasting Harlem BarBQ?s version, I was the main one at the table eating it because it was so good!

?

Alex informed us that all of the food is made from scratch daily. The fries are hand-cut every single day and they even make their own Hennessy caramel that goes into the popular Caramel Hennessy coladas. I was highly impressed with what?s going on inside of Harlem BarBQ. Alex , the owner and the entire staff are putting great strides forward to adapt and change to the incoming neighborhood around them without losing the essence of the restaurant that they started out with. With these new and improved adaptations it can only get better from here.

(AP) ? Deidra Reese isn't waiting for people to come to her to find out whether they are registered to vote.

With iPad in hand, Reese is going to community centers, homes and churches in nine Ohio cities, looking up registrations to make sure voters have proper ID and everything else they need to cast ballots on Election Day.

"We are not going to give back one single inch. We have fought too long and too hard," said Reese, 45, coordinator of the Columbus-based Ohio Unity Coalition, an affiliate of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation.

Reese is part of a cadre of black women engaged in a revived wave of voting rights advocacy four years after the historic election of the nation's first black president. Provoked by voting law changes in various states, they have decided to help voters navigate the system ? a fitting role, they say, given that black women had the highest turnout of any group of voters in 2008.

"We've forgotten our mothers went to three jobs, picked us up from school, put the macaroni and cheese on the table, got up and got somebody registered to vote," said actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, one of several women who participated in a strategy session this week during the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's annual legislative conference in the nation's capital. Ralph is married to Pennsylvania state Sen. Vincent Hughes.

The political and financial power of black women is one of the themes of this year's four-day event. It will culminate Saturday with a keynote speech from one of the most visible black women in America, first lady Michelle Obama.

"It's time for us to lead the way because we voted in greater numbers than any other gender and race group last election, and we got to do the same this year," said Elsie Scott, president and CEO of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.

Turnout among women of all races is generally higher than for men. In 2008, about 69 percent of eligible black female voters went to the polls, an increase of 5.1 percentage points over 2004, according to a study of census data on 2008 voters by the Pew Hispanic Center. That compares with 66.1 percent of white women.

African-American women, who number about 20 million in the U.S., have long been the largest group of Democratic voters in the country, said David Bositis, senior research associate with the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies.

In a room at the Washington Convention Center on Wednesday, the sense of urgency among the women was palpable. They noted that voter registration deadlines in some states are as early as Oct. 6, the last of them on Oct. 16. Few attendees accepted the argument that the new voting laws were intended to fight fraud, as supporters of those laws maintain.

Judith Browne-Dianis, co-director of The Advancement Project, said black women showed in 2008 they can turn out in record numbers. But in 2010, "we sat home and while we were sitting at home, there were others that were plotting and what they decided to do was to change the rules of the game."

The women invoke the name of abolitionist and women's suffragist Sojourner Truth, and repeat civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer's famous line ? "I am sick and tired of being sick and tired" ? as a rallying cry. They talk strategy about checking to see who's been purged from voter rolls or locating documents that voters need to get photo identification. All along, they remind voters of the time, before the Voting Rights Act of 1965 became law, when black people were kept from voting.

Barbara Arnwine, executive director of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, said a voter hotline set up by several groups already gets a thousand calls a day. Callers are typically people who don't know if they can vote, whether their felony conviction keeps them from voting or what ID is required in their state, if at all.

Her organization has created a computer app that allows people to verify their registration status, get help registering online, learn about voting requirements in their state, find polling places and receive other assistance.

Ig Nobel honours ponytail physics

A UK/US team that came up with an equation to predict the shape of a ponytail has earned itself an Ig Nobel.

Patrick Warren, Raymond Goldstein, Robin Ball and Joe Keller picked up their prestigious award at a sellout gala ceremony at Harvard University.

Igs are intended as a bit of a spoof on the more sober Nobel science prizes.

Other 2012 winners included teams that studied how chimps could recognise each other from their behinds and why coffee will spill out of a moving mug.

But although some of this celebrated research might sound daft, much of it is intended to tackle real-world problems and gets published in peer-reviewed, scholarly journals.

Dr Warren, who is a researcher for Unilever in the UK, said he was thrilled to pick up his Ig.

"I'm amazed that a piece of work I've done has attracted so much attention," he told BBC News.

"My field, statistical physics, is not something that many will have heard of, so I'm really pleased we've done something that's caught the imagination."

His and his co-workers' research produced what has become known as the "Ponytail Shape Equation".

It takes into account the stiffness of the hair fibres on the head, the effects of gravity and the presence of the random curliness or waviness that is ubiquitous in human hair to model how a ponytail is likely to behave.

Together with a new quantity the team calls the Rapunzel Number, the equation can be used to predict the shape that hair will take when it is drawn behind the head and tied together.

"I've been working on this for a long time," said Dr Warren. "At Unilever, as you can imagine, there is a lot of interest because we sell a lot of haircare products. But there are wider applications where you have a lot of fibres coming together, such as in fabrics.

"I've also wondered if we can contribute something to the whole area of computer animation. Hair, for example, is something that is very hard to make look natural in animated movies."

Thursday's Ig Nobel ceremony at Harvard's Sanders Theatre was the 22nd since the American science humour magazine, Annals of Improbable Research, started the event.

The gala is always attended by real Nobel Laureates, who are tasked with handing out the prizes. Recipients get 60 seconds to make an acceptance speech. If they run over, a young girl will start to shout "boring". Another tradition is for everyone in the theatre to throw paper planes.

The full list of 2012 Ig Nobel winners:

Psychology Prize: Anita Eerland and Rolf Zwaan (Netherlands) and Tulio Guadalupe (Peru/Russia/Netherlands) for their study Leaning to the Left Makes the Eiffel Tower Seem Smaller.

Peace Prize: The SKN Company (Russia) for converting old Russian ammunition into new diamonds.

Acoustics Prize: Kazutaka Kurihara and Koji Tsukada (Japan) for creating the SpeechJammer - a machine that disrupts a person's speech by making them hear their own spoken words at a very slight delay.

Neuroscience Prize: Craig Bennett, Abigail Baird, Michael Miller, and George Wolford (US) for demonstrating that brain researchers, by using complicated instruments and simple statistics, can see meaningful brain activity anywhere - even in a dead salmon.

Chemistry Prize: Johan Pettersson (Sweden/Rwanada) for solving the puzzle of why, in certain houses in the town of Andersl?v, Sweden, people's hair turned green.

Literature Prize: The US Government General Accountability Office for issuing a report about reports about reports that recommends the preparation of a report about the report about reports about reports.

Physics Prize: Joseph Keller (US), Raymond Goldstein (US/UK), Patrick Warren and Robin Ball (UK) for calculating the balance of forces that shape and move the hair in a human ponytail. Prof Keller was additionally given an Ig for work he contributed to on non-drip teapots in 1999 but for which he had been wrongly overlooked at the time.

Fluid Dynamics Prize: Rouslan Krechetnikov (US/Russia/Canada) and Hans Mayer (US) for studying the dynamics of liquid-sloshing, to learn what happens when a person walks while carrying a cup of coffee.

Anatomy Prize: Frans de Waal (Netherlands/US) and Jennifer Pokorny (US) for discovering that chimpanzees can identify other chimpanzees individually from seeing photographs of their rear ends.

Medicine Prize: Emmanuel Ben-Soussan and Michel Antonietti (France) for advising doctors who perform colonoscopies how to minimise the chance that their patients will explode.

U.S. officials: All 33,000 surge troops have left Afghanistan

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) ? Nearly two years after President Barack Obama ordered 33,000 more U.S. troops to Afghanistan to tamp down the escalating Taliban violence, the last of those surge troops have left the country, U.S. officials said Thursday.

The withdrawal, which leaves 68,000 American forces in the warzone, comes as the security transition to Afghan forces is in trouble, threatened by a spike in so-called insider attacks in which Afghan Army and police troops, or insurgents dressed in their uniforms, have been attacking and killing U.S. and NATO forces.

And it's called into question the core strategy that relies on NATO troops working shoulder to shoulder with Afghans, training them to take over the security of their own country so the U.S. and its allies can leave at the end of 2014 as planned.

The number of U.S. forces there peaked at about 101,000 last year, and they have been coming out slowly over the past several months.

The surge was aimed at beating back the Taliban to give the Afghan government and its security forces the time and space to take hold. The key goal was to ensure that the Taliban did not regain a foothold in the country that could allow it once again to become a safe haven for terror groups. And there was hope that Taliban members would be willing to come to the peace table.

Military commanders say the war strategy is on track and that they have made broad gains against the Taliban, wresting control of areas where the insurgents once had strong footholds. And U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has characterized the insider attacks as the last gasp of a desperate insurgency.

But other top military leaders, including U.S. Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, are worried about the impact of the attacks on the troops. Dempsey called them a "very serious threat" to the war campaign and has declared that "something has to change."

Siemens, Vinamotor in deal to make hybrid bus prototype ...

Pham Thai Lai (L) of Siemens Vietnam and Do Nga Viet of Vinamotor exchange the contract for manufacturing a bus prototype using the Siemens ELFA hybrid technology with Germany?s Federal Minister of Economics and Technology Philipp Roesler (background, L) witnessing - Photo: Courtesy of Siemens Vietnam

Siemens Vietnam and Vietnam Motors Industry Corporation (Vinamotor) yesterday struck a contract for manufacturing an environmental-friendly, energy-efficient bus prototype using the Siemens ELFA hybrid technology for test run in Vietnam before mass production.
The contract was signed by president and CEO of Siemens Vietnam Pham Thai Lai and Vinamotor chairman Do Nga Viet in Hanoi under the witness of Germany?s Federal Minister of Economics and Technology Philipp Roesler and Vietnam?s Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh.

The signing marked a new development of partnership between Siemens Vietnam and Vinamotor, three months after the two sides inked a cooperation agreement for applying Siemens ELFA hybrid drive technology to city buses in Vietnam, Siemens Vietnam told the Daily.

Siemens Vietnam said the ELFA hybrid technology would help city buses reduce fuel consumption by half and therefore significantly save operating cost, as well as mitigate the environmental impact through lower exhaust emission.

As agreed, Siemens will provide all necessary ELFA components and technical support for Vinamotor while the local corporation will be responsible for the platform and will manufacture remaining parts of the bus for operational preparations.

Siemens Vietnam and Vinamotor expected the prototype to be finished for demonstration by July 2013. Upon the successful production and testing, the prototype will be put into experimental operation on public roads for three months before the final performance evaluation and mass production will be right after that.

Lai of Siemens Vietnam said as the number of city dwellers in Vietnam was increasing, city buses continued to be a major means of public transport. ?Its role will remain essential in the future when there are mass transit systems such as metro or mono-rail in place in big cities like Hanoi and HCMC.?

?The successful implementation of the hybrid bus project will make a significant milestone in the development of the automotive industry in Vietnam? The project will? also open up a great opportunity for this industry in export,? Lai said.

Lai noted that through the hybrid project, Siemens reaffirmed its strong and long-term commitments to the sustainable development of Vietnam by supplying technologies from its extensive green portfolio.

According to Siemens Vietnam, ELFA is a diesel-electric hybrid concept that combines mobile power supply modules such as diesel generator sets and high performance energy storage devices. With the ELFA hybrid technology, the braking energy is turned into electrical energy by the regenerative operation of the traction motor and is fed into an energy storage device and this energy is reused during start and acceleration.

The bus using such technology can be driven electrically and with emission-free, particularly in inner city areas and at bus stops depending on storage capacity equipment.
