Ecommerce Solutions Needed To Run An Online Business | Online ...

?

In order to run a successful online business, you will need a variety of ecommerce solutions. Having these solutions in place will help ensure that your ecommerce business runs as smoothly as possible. If you do not take the time to carefully consider all of your options when it comes to your ecommerce website, you may run into some logistical problems that hinder your business from growing.

Shopping Cart

One of the most important ecommerce solutions you need to research is the shopping cart you will use on your website. The type of shopping cart you select for your website will play a major role in the overall success of your online business. Each shopping cart solution is different from the rest, which is why you need to carefully research each option to make sure you use the best one to fit your needs. Using a demo version of all of the shopping cart solutions available will help you narrow down your selection and ensure that you end up choosing a shopping cart that is easy to use.

Also, you want to select a shopping cart that is optimized for conversions or has the ability to be customized. Focusing on the conversion rate of your ecommerce website can help increase the amount of money your ecommerce business makes without having to increase your expenses at the same time. By starting out with a shopping cart that is already optimized for conversions, you will increase the likelihood of your ecommerce website being successful from the onset.

Payment Processor

The payment processor you elect to use with your ecommerce site is another important factor to consider. You want to make sure you select a payment processor that can process the largest number of payment types. The last thing you would want is for one of your customers to not be able to make a purchase on your website because your payment processor does not accept their form of payment. Researching the different payment processor options that are out there will help you find the right processor that you can use on your website.

Customer Service

The last item you will want to focus on when creating an ecommerce website is customer service. It is inevitable that some of your customers are going to have issues or complaints. Whether these issues are in regards to a billing error, damaged products, or your return policy, it is a good idea to have a solid customer service plan in place before you launch your website. By being prepared when it comes to customer service issues, you will be able to increase your customers? satisfaction and the likelihood that they will shop at your ecommerce store again in the future.

If you do not have any employees to handle customer service in-house, you always have the option of outsourcing your customer service needs. By outsourcing your customer service work, you will be able to save money while simultaneously ensuring that all of your customers? issues are handled in a quick, appropriate manner.

If you are considering starting an ecommerce business, you will need to make sure you have a solid business plan in place before launching your website. Using a quality shopping cart, top-notch payment processor, and making sure to have a customer service plan in place from day one will help increase the chances of your ecommerce website being a success.

Jun 15, Identity Theft Risk Management | Celframe ? Blogs

An effective identity theft risk management program must consider all risks associated with identity theft and related fraud including the unauthorized download of customer information, operations fraud resulting from stolen personal information from internal and external sources, and, excessive and inappropriate access to view customer information inside and outside of the information systems. In general, identity theft risk management efforts are usually concentrated around four general areas which are protection of personal information, compliance, fraud prevention and lawsuits.

As we increasingly share information with third parties due to outsourcing and other reasons, and digitally store business information including customer personal information, incidents of system intrusions by employees or outsiders become inevitable as we have witnessed in recent news. The excessive collection, retention and sharing of personal information as well as their storage in computer systems which are often connected to the public networks make computer incidents much more devastating for companies and their millions of customers. System intrusions have a much higher impact that non-technical theft of personal information such as hard copy reports containing personal information because digital information can be stolen, stored, carried around and shared in much higher quantities and speed. Many business databases have millions of customer information such as email addresses, names, credit card numbers, date of birth, and unique identifiers such as a social security number used in the United States which can easily be used to commit fraud.

External intrusions as well as unauthorized activities by internal employees to view and download confidential business information pose some of the greatest identity theft risks management challenges for companies. In fact, damage inflicted by insiders is huge and very common and although some employees may have authorized access to business information for legitimate business reasons, their access to systems and information is often not monitored to detect unauthorized activities. This lack of control is often due to the perception that since their access is authorized, inappropriate activities will not occur. This assumption can not be further from the truth as it is only an assumption. Companies must implement internal controls specifically designed for restricting and monitoring insider activities in the areas of information download, storage on external devices, and activities during unusual times of the day.

Identity theft risk management specialists are not only concerned with the protection of their customers? personal information from external and internal sources for fraud prevention and compliance purposes, but they are also concerned with personal information stolen from other companies which can be used to defraud their own companies. Companies often face Identity theft and fraud risks regardless of where the information was obtained from. High quality information stolen from any source which can be used to easily commit fraud has a wider identity theft ripple effect affecting many other companies. Affected companies may have the best information protection practices; however, if their identity theft risk management efforts do not address their operations, they are likely to experience fraud due to another company?s negligence.

In fact the Red Flags Rule was created to address fraud prevention at the transaction point regardless of where identity fraud components were stolen from. This law is a huge step in the right direction for the identity theft risk management field. For many years, the focus had been around protecting customer information although with less oversight around insider activities. However, we now recognize that information stolen from other sources can affect other companies and their customers which is why the Red Flag identity theft prevention law was created; to force and guide high risk companies toward an effective identity theft risk management and prevention strategy which identifies, detects and mitigates identity theft red flags.

Sleep Apnea Linked to Higher Cancer Death Risk

SUNDAY, May 20 (HealthDay News) -- Sleep apnea has already been linked to a host of adverse health problems, such as high blood pressure and heart disease. Now, new research suggests that in people who already have cancer, the sleep disorder may raise their risk of dying from cancer.

People with the most severe sleep apnea -- those who have 30 or more episodes of low or no oxygen in an hour of sleep -- had almost five times the risk of cancer death compared to someone without sleep apnea.

"Sleep apnea is the periodic pausing of breathing during sleep that results in drops in oxygen levels in your blood. It causes snoring and sleepiness during the day," explained study author Dr. Javier Nieto, chair of the department of population health sciences at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, in Madison.

"Aside from being an annoyance to your spouse, family members and maybe even your neighbors depending on how loud your snoring is, sleep apnea is a severe problem. Drowsiness and sleepiness during the day increase the risk of accidents, and sleep apnea is associated with cardiovascular disease, heart disease, strokes, hypertension and cardiovascular mortality. Now, we see this new angle: an increase in cancer mortality," said Nieto.

Nieto is scheduled to present the study Sunday at the American Thoracic Society International Conference, in San Francisco.

Nieto said the new study was suggested by researchers from the University of Barcelona in Spain who found that when mice were deprived of oxygen periodically, skin cancer tumors grew faster in the mice. And, cancer cells in the lab that are deprived of oxygen produce molecules that stimulate the growth of blood vessels in an attempt to get more oxygen, he said.

Nieto and the Spanish researchers wondered if this effect was the same in humans. To test that theory, they reviewed data from more than 1,500 people included in the Wisconsin Sleep Cohort. This study included 22 years of mortality data, as well as information from sleep studies.

The researchers adjusted the data to account for age, sex, body mass, smoking and other factors that might affect the risk of cancer death, and they found that sleep apnea increased the risk of cancer death. They also found that the more severe the sleep apnea, the more likely someone was to die from cancer.

People with mild sleep apnea -- five to 14.9 episodes of low or no oxygen in an hour -- had a 10 percent increased risk of cancer death, while those with moderate sleep apnea -- 15 to 29.9 episodes of low or no oxygen in an hour -- had double the risk of cancer death. Those with severe sleep apnea -- more than 30 episodes of low or no oxygen in an hour -- had a 4.8 times higher risk of cancer death.

Nieto said the study didn't prove a cause-and-effect relationship, but the association was quite strong. And, he noted that the findings were consistent in humans, animals and in cells.

He added that there is also a plausible mechanism for this association. When you have cancer and you repeatedly have episodes of low or no oxygen, the cancer cells "try to compensate for the lack of oxygen by growing additional blood vessels to get more oxygen. It's a defense mechanism," Nieto said. And, as those blood vessels keep growing, it helps the tumor to spread, he explained.

Dr. Steven Park, a sleep medicine specialist and otorhinolaryngologist at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City, said he wasn't surprised by the findings.

"This goes along with the link between sleep apnea and pretty much every chronic medical condition out there," Park said. But, he added that this study's findings need to be confirmed in other studies, and ideally be published in a peer-reviewed journal. Research presented at medical meetings should be viewed as preliminary until published in a peer-reviewed medical journal.

"Anyone with snoring, severe daytime fatigue, lack of memory or focus, high blood pressure, diabetes, and even someone who has to get up to go to the bathroom at night should be screened for sleep apnea," Park said. He added that it's possible to have sleep apnea without snoring, especially for women. So, if you're getting enough sleep at night, yet still feel tired during the day, it's important to bring this up to your doctor.

Park said there are home-monitoring devices that can be used to screen people at home initially.

Nieto said that treating sleep apnea will improve your quality of life, as well as reduce your risk of high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. And, if you have cancer, he said, treating sleep apnea may help increase your odds of surviving cancer.

France's Hollande sticking to early Afghan pullout

(AP) ? In his first visit to the Oval Office, French President Francois Hollande declared he will withdraw all French combat troops from Afghanistan by year's end, making clear to President Barack Obama the timeline for ending the U.S.-led war will not trump a campaign pledge that helped Hollande gain his new job.

Obama nodded along on Friday, knowing what was coming, but did not otherwise directly respond. Heading into a NATO summit on the course of the war and beyond, the White House has sought to emphasize the war coalition will remain firm even as nations pull back. And Hollande assured Obama that France was not out to cut and run.

"We will continue to support Afghanistan in a different way. Our support will take a different format," Hollande said. "I'm pretty sure I will find the right means so that our allies can continue with their mission and at the same time I can comply to the promise I made to the French people."

France's declaration has significance far beyond its borders. Hollande's move means France, one of the top contributors of troops to the war, will be removing the combat forces a full two years before the timeline agreed to by allies in the coalition. That could shift more of the burden to those allies and give them reason to hasten their own exit.

Hollande later told reporters that some "residual" number of France's current 3,300 troops will remain in Afghanistan after this year to provide training and to bring home equipment. But he alluded to the reaction that France's fast-track withdrawal may get from its NATO allies when they gather in Chicago Sunday and Monday.

"Our decision will be taken," he said. "I can't tell you that it will be applauded, but it will be taken."

One high-ranking French diplomat, speaking only on condition of anonymity to provide details of closed-door talks, told the AP that France had not gotten any serious pushback from American officials about Hollande's early pullout plan other than they did not want Paris to "proselytize" the quick pullout idea among other NATO allies in Afghanistan.

The United States and its allies plan to end the combat mission in Afghanistan at the end 2014. Afghanistan will move into the combat lead in 2013. The United States has about 90,000 troops in Afghanistan, far more than any partner nation, and is on pace to shrink that number to 68,000 by the end of September.

Obama and Hollande had never met, and their first interactions were closely watched given both the historic importance of the U.S-France relationship and the crises of war and economic strife confronting both leaders.

The mild-mannered Hollande, who has little international experience, ousted the more brash Nicolas Sarkozy and was sworn into office just days ago.

Now, in a hurry, Obama and Hollande will begin shaping a relationship that could prove one of the U.S. president's most important ones should he win a second term. Beyond their White House talks, Obama and Hollande are meeting at the G-8 summit Friday and Saturday in Maryland before shifting to the NATO conference in Obama's home town.

On the economy, Hollande and Obama both underscored that they want Europe to embrace a new approach to its debt crisis: more growth, less budget cutting. Obama's administration sees such a balanced approach as essential to stabilizing the eurozone and preventing its economic chaos, particularly in Greece, from spilling more broadly.

"President Hollande and I agree that this is an issue of extraordinary importance, not only to the people of Europe but also to the world economy," Obama said. He said managing the fiscal crisis in Europe must be coupled with a "strong growth agenda."

Hollande, elected May 6, is insisting on rethinking a European austerity treaty. But he also is trying to convince Obama and other leaders at the Group of Eight economic summit that his position will not worsen the debt crisis.

The French president also spoke for himself and Obama in sending a message to Greece, where fears remain that the debt-riddled country may have to abandon the 17-member currency union, which could jolt the global economy. Greece is set to hold elections on June 17 to end a political deadlock.

"We share the same views ? Greece must stay in the eurozone," Hollande said. Ahead of the election, he said, both he and Obama "wanted to send a message to that effect to the Greek people."

Hollande is trying to defend France's interests while building a relationship with Obama, widely popular in France but seen by some in Hollande's camp as too friendly with the recently ousted president, the conservative Sarkozy.

Obama and Hollande traded some light-hearted thoughts about presidential life and American fast food. Both offered expected assurances of their alliance.

"France is an independent country and cares about its independence," Hollande said, "but in old friendship with the United States of America."

Hollande also met later with British Prime Minister David Cameron for the first time before addressing French expatriates at the French Embassy ? where he suggested that Obama's looming election race made the American leader more accessible on Hollande's push for more growth-friendly policies.

He also hinted of his support for Obama in the election this fall.

"I think that we will begin a cooperation and partnership with President Obama that ? I hope for him, and for us ? will last a long time," Hollande said.

On the war, a senior U.S. official said the early combat exits of Dutch and Australian troops are the model for a probable agreement with France. In those cases trainers or other support forces are supplanting front-line combat forces. Such an agreement is likely to emerge from NATO discussions this weekend, the official said.

Polls show most French, and many other Europeans, want their countries out of Afghanistan, as do most Americans. Sensing the political winds, Sarkozy had prepared to break with NATO's in-together, out-together mindset and announced during the campaign that he'd pull out combat troops by the end of 2013, a year early.

Hollande, vying for election, promised to withdraw them even one year before that.

Political misses: Cold War in the Sunshine State?

Politically Foul

Politics: it's not a game, exactly. But, there are rules and when you break them you are running?Politically Foul!

Republican congressman Allen West got his hands on a dated play book at a Florida town hall this week when he announced, "I believe there is about 78 to 81 members of the Democratic party that are members the Communist Party."

Flag! 15 yards...late hit!? Sixty years late! West is calling a (not so instant) replay on the Cold War.

Our Politically Foul all star, Vice President Joe Biden, was at it again this week. This time at a campaign event in Ohio where he went for a defensive tackle of the GOP. Getting fired up, Biden yelled, "They just don't get us!"

Foul: excessive shouting! Pace yourself Mr. Vice President, you have a long campaign season ahead.

The mystery of the 'will they or won't they' roster of potential VP contenders on the Republican ticket continues this week. The player in question: Bobby Jindal, who skirted the question of his VP ambitions, "It isn't about who's Vice President, it's about the vision going forward for America"

Flag! Intentional grounding! ?You can only delay the game clock so long.

Those are the politically plays we flagged this week. Tell us your?best and worst moments and we'll survey the field again next week.

Epson WorkForce 645 All-in-One

The Epson WorkForce 645 provides a solid feature set and good standard paper capacity as a small- or home-office inkjet multifunction printer (MFP). Its 30-sheet duplexing automatic document feeder (ADF), which lets you copy, scan, and fax two-sided documents, is unusual at its price point. It has decent speed, and its output quality?though overall a bit below par?is fine for most standard business uses.

The WorkForce 645 is a handsome unit, clad in matte and glossy black. It is reasonably compact for an MFP, measuring 8.9 by 17.6 by 14.2 inches (HWD) and weighing 15.6 pounds. Its tilt-up front panel contains a 2.5-inch non-touch color LCD, an alphanumeric keypad, and various buttons to control the four basic functions of Photo, Copy, Fax, and Scan. The 645 has a 250-sheet paper tray and an automatic duplexer for printing on both sides of a sheet of paper. The scanner?s platen fits paper up to A4 size; you can scan at up to legal size using the ADF.

The 645 is compatible with Epson Connect Email Print; Epson assigns the printer its own email address, and you can email documents to it for automatic printout, even if you?re halfway around the world.

The WorkForce 645 provides WiFi and Ethernet as well as USB connectivity. I tested it over an Ethernet connection using a PC running Windows Vista.

Epson WorkForce 645 All-in-One

Print Speed

I timed the Epson WorkForce 645 on our business applications suite (using?QualityLogic's hardware and software) at an effective 4.0 pages per minute (ppm). This edges the Editors? Choice HP Officejet 6700 Premium ?($169.99 direct, 4 stars), which we timed at 3.4 ppm on the same tests, while matching the Editors? Choice Brother MFC-J825DW ?($150 street, 4 stars), which we also clocked at 4.0 ppm. The HP Officejet Pro 8600 ($199.99 direct, 4 stars) zipped through the same tests at 5.7 ppm.

The 645 averaged 1 minute 15 seconds to print out a 4-by-6 photo.

Output Quality

The WorkForce 845?s output quality was a bit below par overall, with slightly sub-par text, sub-par graphics, and photo quality on the low side of average. ?Text quality was fine for school and general business use, though I wouldn?t use it for documents like resumes in which you?re counting on its appearance to make a good impression.

Graphics quality was sub-par for an inkjet MFP. Banding, a regular pattern of thin lines of discoloration, was visible in many of the printouts, at times rising to the level of distraction. ?Most graphics showed dithering: graininess and, at times, visible dot patterns. Quality was okay for general business use, though I?d be hesitant to use the output for PowerPoint handouts.

The photo print quality was generally about what you?d expect from drugstore prints. Photos did well in showing detail in darker areas, but lighter areas looked a bit washed out in some cases. A monochrome print showed a modest tint.

Other Issues

Epson doesn?t quote cost per page figures for its printers, but based on their prices and yields for the most economical cartridges, it works out to 3.2 cents per monochrome page and 11.3 cents per color page. The cost per monochrome page is the same as for the HP Officejet 6700 Premium, while the HP?s color costs are 2.3 cents per page lower. You?d make up for the HP?s $20 higher price after printing less than 1,000 color pages with it, and everything beyond that would be savings. ?The HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One, with running costs of 1.6 cents per black-and-white page and $7.2 cents per color page, is priced $50 higher than the Epson but offers more dramatic cost savings over time.

The Epson WorkForce 645 has a solid feature set for a small-office MFP: good standard paper capacity plus an automatic duplexer; a duplexing ADF for copying, scanning, and faxing two-sided documents and a memory card reader (the HP Officejet 6700 Premium?s ADF is simplex only, and it lacks a card reader). Epson Connect Email Print, which lets you email documents to your printer for printout, is a nice touch. HP offers a similar service as part of its ePrint functionality, while the Editors? Choice HP 6700 Premium as well as the Officejet Pro 8600 add touch screens and can run HP?s Web apps. The WorkForce?s running costs are slightly higher than the 6700?s, and significantly higher than those of the Officejet Pro 8600. But it offers a good package and decent speed for its price, and better paper capacity than the Editors?Choice Brother MFC-J825DW. It?s well worth consideration by a micro or home office looking for a color inkjet MFP.

Wayne Newton sued over Las Vegas home museum plans

LAS VEGAS (AP) ? Plans to turn Wayne Newton's sprawling Las Vegas estate into a celebrity museum have shifted into an ugly legal battle citing mismanagement, animal abuse and sexual harassment.

The company that purchased the rights to convert Newton's home into "Graceland West" filed a lawsuit this week in Las Vegas against Newton, his wife and her 76-year-old mother that claims the family unreasonably delayed the project to ensure it never opens.

The Newton family claims the lawsuit is a preemptive strike because they had planned to sue the company for breach of contract after multiple construction delays. The family plans to file a counter lawsuit challenging the allegations made by CSD, LLC.

The legal wrangling paints an uncertain future for Newton's 40-acre estate featuring South African penguins, Arabian horses, Impressionist paintings by Pierre-Auguste Renoir and 17th-century antiques collected from European castles.

Newton's lawyer, J. Stephen Peek, dismissed CSD's allegations as "salacious" lies and said the Newtons had nothing to do with the project's delayed opening.

"The real substance will come out in time," he told The Associated Press in a brief telephone interview.

The lawsuit seeks to have the Newton family immediately vacate their lavish estate, Casa de Shenandoah, and allow the $50 million project honoring the Las Vegas legend's music career to move forward. Construction plans for the museum called for an exhibition space, theater, zoo, visitors' center and other attractions.

The lawsuit also claims Newton sexually harassed a young female employee hired to train his 55 horses by repeatedly kissing her on the mouth. The worker quit and has threatened to sue Newton and CSD, according to the lawsuit.

Peek said the woman had been fired and described the accusations as an attempt to "obtain financial gain."

Under the terms of the museum deal, Newton, his wife and his daughter agreed to move to a newly constructed $2 million home on the estate so their mansion could be converted into a museum initially scheduled to open in late 2011. The lawsuit claims the family refused to relocate or turn over personal memorabilia.

"It is quite clear that it was always their intention to remain in the Mansion regardless of the terms of the agreement," the lawsuit alleges.

The company claims Newton's home was in a "sad state of disrepair" when it purchased the land for $19.5 million in June 2010, with his horses uncared for and 6-feet-tall animal manure piles covering the grounds.

"The penguin ponds were disgustedly dirty, full of algae and were endangering the penguins, all of whom were sick and many had died," the lawsuit reads.

Peek countered that the home couldn't have been in disrepair because the TV show "The Amazing Race" filmed its season finale there in 2009.

He said CSD failed to obtain necessary building permits, causing emergency officials to halt construction of the visitor center. The company also allegedly bullied its employees.

The Newton family released a statement from Geneva Clark, a partial owner of the museum, who denounced the allegations made by CSD's manager, Steven Kennedy.

"He is wrongly accusing the Newtons and mismanaging his role of leadership," Clark said in the statement.

Newton allowed the AP to tour his estate in October 2010, just months after the deal with CSD was finalized. The property appeared to be clean and his animals seemed healthy and well-kept.

Newton faced various financial woes in recent years. He filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 1992 to reorganize an estimated $20 million in debts, including a $341,000 Internal Revenue Service lien for back taxes.

In 2005, he disputed IRS claims that he and his wife owed $1.8 million in back taxes and penalties from 1997 through 2000.

More recently, sheriff's deputies were turned away from the ranch home in February 2010 while trying to collect a $500,000 court judgment stemming from back pay owed to a former pilot. That same month, Newton's billionaire buddy Bruton Smith tried to seize Casa de Shenandoah for repayment of a $3.35 million loan.
